            aptivus side effects lawsuit  Aptivus, available as Tapranavir Capsules and Tapranavir Oral Solution, is used for the combination antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1 infected patients who are infected with HIV-1 strains resistant to more than one protease inhibitor and who have tried multiple treatments.

Aptivus belongs to the class of 4-hydroxy-5,6-dihydro-2-pyrone sulfonamides and is a protease inhibitor of HIV-1 . The drug is soft gelatin capsules containing 250mg tipranavirfor oral administration. The capsules contain the major inactive ingredients propylene glycol, dehydrated alcohol, polyoxyl 35 castor oil, mono or diglycerides of caprylic or capric acid and gelatin.

 

The oral solution is available in 100mg/mL of tipranavir and is a butter mint-butter toffee flavored, yellow, clear liquid. The oral solution contains the inactive solutions Polyethylene glycol 400, Vitamin E polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS), Purified water, Propylene glycol. Aptivus Side Effects Lawsuit

Aptivus is co-administered with ritonavir and its use is based on analyses of plasma HIV-1 RNA levels in treatment-experienced adults in two controlled studies of Aptivus and Ritonavir of 48 weeks duration and one open-label 48-week study in pediatric patients age 2 to 18 years.

When initiating treatment with Aptivus it should be considered that the use if the drug in patients unfamiliar with treatment is not recommended, the use of other active ingredients is related to a increased likelihood of response to treatment, the use of the drug should be lead by genotypic or phenotypic testing or treatment history, caution should be used when prescribing Aptivus to patients with elevated transaminases and hepatitis B or C, Liver function test should be preformed and monitored frequently throughout treatment, and caution should be used when prescribing the drug to patients who may be at risk of increased bleeding or who receive  medications that are known to increase the risk of bleeding. The recommended dose of Aptivar in Adults is 500mg given as two 250mg capsules or 5mL oral solution. The drug should be co-administered with 200mg of ritonavir twice a day.

The recommended dose of Aptivar in pediatric patients is calculated by the body weight in kg or the body surface area of each individual child. The dose should not exceed what is recommended for adults. The recommended dose for pediatric patients is 14mg,kg with 6mg/kg ritonavir taken twice daily.Aptivus Side Effects Lawsuit

In the event of an overdose the administration of activated charcoal may also be used to aid in removal of unabsorbed drug. There is no known antidote for an overdose of Aptivus. To treat overdose take general supportive measures, including monitoring of vital signs and observation of the patient's clinical status.

The Aptivus capsules should be stored at 36°-46°F in a refrigerator before the bottle is opened and after the bottle is opened it must be used within the first 60 days and should be stored at 77 °F. Aptivus Side Effects Lawsuit

The Aptivus oral solution should be stored at 77°F and must be used within 60days of opening the bottle. Patient should not freeze or refrigerate the oral solution.
