 Baycol, cervastatin sodium tablets used for oral administration, are tablets that consist of 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, or 0.8mg of cervastatin sodium. Cervistatin sodium is a hygroscopic amorphous, white or off white, powder that is soluble in methanol, water, ethanol, and slightly in acetone.

When tested in 5,000 patients for adverse events, events occurred in 3.1% of patients treated with cerivastatin while only 2.0% of patients treated with placebo encountered adverse events. Creatine kinase and transaminase levels may be elevated by use of Cerivastatin sodium.

An attempt should be made to control hypercholesterolemia with appropriate diet, exercise, and treatment of underlying medical problems before turning to Baycol for therapy. Patients who use Baycol should report muscle pain, tenderness, or weekness promptly, especially if malaise or fever is also present. Cholesterol and triglcerides pass as a part of lipoprotein complexes throughout the bloodstream. Clinical studies have shown that total cholesterol, LDL-C, and apolipoprotein B promote human atherosclerosis.
